Creating Company Logos For Construction Firms
The construction sector is very competitive indeed. More established firms handle the bigger development jobs while smaller and newer firms must make evident their quality with a number of subcontracts before moving on to bigger projects.
My design firm has just been given an assignment to create a new construction logo design for a local construction firm. To begin the project, the art director and I dropped by our client's office for a short interview to find out more about the company.
Like many other clients we have questioned, most companies instinctively know they need a new identity to remain competitive but are not quite sure what they want. That is where our services come in handy.
Before beginning work on the logo design, we normally inquire about the history of the organization, its turnover, its philosophy, its specialty, its target market and the reason it wants a new construction logo design; just to get a better understanding of things.
We discovered that they are a relatively young company, 10 years in the business with 4 important subcontract projects and many smaller ones under their belts, each one more impressive than the last. They are now looking to adopt a blue ocean strategy and endeavor into eco-friendly medium cost suburban development - a niche with very few competitors - and consequently taking the opportunity to garner a reputation for themselves as one of the first firms to engage this niche.
From the dialogue, we found out that they have the needed resources to carry out medium scale development projects. Their identified niche has rendered it much easier to differentiate them from other developers.
At our agency, we had our normal brainstorming session and and decided on the conceptual direction. Following that we designated 4 designers to produce individual interpretations or logo samples to turn those creative concepts to logo designs.
After several days, the design concepts were ready for show. Some designs employed the use of stylized text while others used construction related graphics like levelers and trowels to get the point across. Even though all four construction logo design samples were unique in their own way, they all adhered to two crucial points.
